Where to repair Canon L-Series lenses and camera bodies, from new, to very old.
Canon EU Warranty
If you have a brand new Canon camera or lens, purchased in Europe, and you have the original purchase invoice, it will be under warranty from Canon for at least 2 years, and in some cases longer. You should be able to have your item repaired for free by Canon Professional Services.
ES Photo Warranty
If your item is under warranty from ES Photo, we will organise the necessary repairs. Repairs may be carried out by ES Photo, by Canon, or by another professional repair center.
Will Canon Repair My Lens?
Canon continues to offer paid repair services for L-Series lenses and pro camera bodies for 7 years after a model is discontinued. While Canon will refuse to repair products after this 7 year interval, many other repair options exist.
It is a common belief that Canon will not repair equipment originally sold outside Europe (grey imports). This is a misunderstanding: Canon will repair these items at your expense, but will not repair items for free under a warranty from outside the EU.
Where to Repair Older Lenses
Lenses no longer repaired by Canon are - in almost all cases - still reparable. ES Photo works with a number of professional repair centres, and we repair some models ourselves. We also have a stock of spare parts for many L-Series lenses. If you are stuck, please do contact us for advice.
How Old Is Too Old?
All lenses eventually become too old to repair, because the value of the lens is less than its repair cost, or because parts become too scarce. The total life expectancy of a lens can vary significantly, but Canon L-Series lenses are high-quality, expensive, and built to last. The life expectancy of these lenses is counted in decades.
ES Photo typically handles lenses up to around 30 years old. However, this is mostly due to the age of the EF mount, as we do not sell older FD lenses. Many lenses manufactured in the 1990s and early 2000s are still in excellent condition, and we are still able to arrange repairs for these models in most cases.

ES Photo does not offer repair services, but we can in most cases direct you to an appropriate repairer. In cases where repair is impractical or economic, we can often accept these lenses as a trade-in, either for longer-term repair, or for parts.
